June 28, 2007

So everyone and their sister's best friend's neighbour's dog is blogging, it's the journalling option of choice in 2007, except, there's an open invitation for the entire world (that has access to the net) to peek... no little locks and keys, no hiding the vinyl covered paper diary under the mattress, or pillow. In 2007, we're about sharing and knowing what's going on everywhere all the time... cameras running live feeds from satelites thousands of kilometres above our planet, and webcams from bedrooms that never shut off... paparrazzi living in cars following our modern day muses around the clock throughout the calendar, feeding non-stop newscasts- because i guess we simply cannot get enough... and so it goes.

In rather non-monumental fashion, today i throw my metaphorical hat in the ring. My thought for the day:
many actions begin with good intentions- those intentions often unfulfilled, not through the cruelities of fate, but rather from lack of effort, vision, and coordination of the various parts playing integral roles in pulling the feat off ...
In this particular case, i'm referring to mental health services- today i witnessed 2 adults lead a group of 3 young men to a picnic table in the middle of the park. Judging by the various elements which made up the picture, (based upon my own experiences) it was apparent, the 3 young men were "clients" and the 2 adults-staff. It was 9:30 am, and the adult male, Sam seemed to be in a rush, calling out at one point the the straggler in the group, with these words," what'syourname, hurry up".
they eventually made it to the picnic table where the 2 adults chatted with each other, the 3 young males drank pepsi, and wore their expressions of despondency. After about 15 minutes, the group got up and walked back in the direction from which they had originally appeared.
again from my own past experiences, if i had to guess what this event meant, i'd say that this kind of outing was designed as some sort of reward for the boys for some compliant behaviour they had previously engaged in. It may or may not have felt rewarding to the boys (their expressions suggested the opposite).
